												| Tribute paid to “iconic” former
												Italian Community Leader | Numerous
Tributes have been paid to former
										Italian Community Leader Cavaliere Luigi
Basanese, who has died in his 77th year.
Mr. Basanese rose to prominence when he
										founded the military association AMICO
										(Associazione Italiana Militari in
Congedo), of which he was President. Since its inception,
every year in November the Amico
Association has led a very important
role on the occasion of the Remembrance
Ceremony held at Brookwood Cemetery, as
well as being an active participant to
										the Italian National Day celebrations.
Luigi has been described by many as an
‘Iconic’ figure who is going to be
										sorely missed across the Community
spectrum. He was for a time president of
										FAIE (Federation of the Italian
										Associations in England), Vice-President
of the Italian Union of Pensioners and
he also collaborated to the founding of
the Piedmont Association. He was one of
the most active members of AMIRA
										(Associazione Maîtres Italiani
Ristoranti e Alberghi). Luigi Basanese was
very proud to be a GMR, Grand Master of
Restauranteurs, a top honour which put
him at the top of a profession that he
loved to be part of. Luigi was born in
Italy on 8th September 1933 and died in
London on the 11th August 2010. He
leaves behind his adored daughter Penny
and his son Vincenzo; his grand-children
										and great-grand-children are all very
proud to bear the family name of
Basanese. For decades Cav. Basanese has
been a great figure within the Italian
community, a personality who played a
major role in the world of Anglo-Italian
										associations owing to his indefatigable
dedication to the betterment of society.
The list of his countless charitable
endeavours in helping his fellowmen is
too long to record here so we will just
mention it, but let us say that scores
of people were gladdened by the warmth
										emanating from Luigi’s generous heart.
His friendship was indeed a treasure to
cherish, as all his friends - and they
are lots of them - will testify.

																	The Staff of
										‘Londra Sera’ express their deepest
										condolences to Luigi’s family and
										consider themselves honoured by having
had the pleasure of knowing Luigi

										for many years.
Goodbye Luigi, we will miss you, till we
										meet again.
