Spaghetti House celebrates
Fabulous at 55

Set up by friends and run by family, Spaghetti House, the restaurant company which introduced true Italian home-cooked food to London in 1955, celebrates its 55th anniversary. To mark this significant milestone, a range of exciting offers will have guests flocking to one of the 11 Spaghetti House restaurants around town during September, for the authentic taste and the warm Italian hospitality which have made the Company famous. Based on friendship, family and a love of truly Italian food, the Company’s history goes back to 1955, when Simone Lavarini and Lorenzo Fraquelli, having eagerly explored the restaurant scene, sharing a vision and a will to recreate the essence of the true Italian dining culture outside their home country, opened their first restaurant. Thus Spaghetti House was born at Goodge Street. In the ensuing years, successful Spaghetti House restaurants opened in many of London’s most noted areas, from fashionable Knightsbridge to literary Bloomsbury. Today there are 11 Spaghetti House restaurants in landmark locations. The menu is still based on the key principles of genuine Italian cuisine, complemented by a notable selection of Italian wines. It showcases modern-rustic, unadulterated Italian dishes, classic specialties and home-made favourites. The ingredients are fresh, Italian and of the highest quality. The trademark pasta dishes and stone-baked pizze sit alongside many new regional, seasonal, meat and fish dishes, inspired by the Chefs’ continuous research and recipe development. Simone Lavarini, now in his 80’s, still personally visits many of the restaurants every week. Luigi, Riccardo and Stefana - second generation of the Lavarini family - and all the very dedicated Staff at Spaghetti House, strive each day to bring to their clientele the best experience possible. All guests dining from any menu at any Spaghetti House on 6 September will be offered a complimentary glass of Prosecco to toast the company’s 55th anniver- sary. Starting at 9am on Monday 6 September for just five days until Friday 10 September, the Spaghetti House website www.spaghettihouse.co.uk will be auctioning off 55 pasta dishes a day, in each of its largest restaurants, at just £1 each. These are Spaghetti House restaurants are: Westfield London W12, Goodge Street W1, Sicilian Avenue, St Martin’s Lane WC2, and Knightsbridge SW1. Bookings are taken every day for that day only, and guests need to be quick, for when it’s gone, it’s gone. The offer is valid for up to four people per booking, with the only condition that guests pre-book online at www.spaghettihouse.co.uk and order at least a starter or a dessert from the main à-la-carte menu, with their pasta dish for £1. With a choice of 24 pasta dishes, guests can ring the changes as often as they like for the whole week, feasting on dishes normally priced between £6.95 and £11.95 and served as full portions. From classic Spaghetti with San Marzano tomatoes and fresh basil, to the signature dish Linguine with king prawns, white wine, garlic, chilli and wild rocket, the choice is simply mouthwatering. A rustic Puttanesca (with spicy tomato sauce, olives, anchovies and capers), a regional Genoese Trofie al Pesto, a vegetarian Tagliatelle Rosticciate (with roasted vegetables) and a hearty Pappardelle (with rustic Italian sausage and spring greens) are just some of the choices on offer £1 each. Those too late to book the £1 offer can still enjoy the Anniversary Menu, a showcase of the best-loved recipes. A delight for the tastebuds is Bruschetta ai gamberoni piccanti (garlic and chilli prawns on toasted rustic bread), or Linguine al salmone e cipollotto (with smoked salmon, cream, mascarpone and chives), or indeed Peperonata con polenta fritta (braised peppers with tomato, basil and crispy polenta chips) for the taste of regional Italy that Spaghetti House advocates. Guests dining from this menu will also be offered a ‘come back’ £5.55 voucher per bill, to use on a future occasion. What’s more, guests signing up to the Company’s website (at www.spaghettihouse.co.uk) are automatically entered into a draw to win £100 of vouchers each month, to be exchanged for meals at their favourite Spaghetti House.
